GIS For Water and Sewer Modeling is designed to teach engineers how to apply cutting-edge GIS technologies to real-world modeling applications for water distribution, wastewater and stormwater systems. The course covers importing and updating gridded and tin ground models in InfoWorks RS; creating default flood mapping objects (e.g. flood compartments); modelling and creation of flood inundation maps; merging of flood compartments; and troubleshooting typical problems related to flood mapping objects.

User Programmable Controls in InfoWorks WS addresses the role of UPCs for water distribution system modeling. UPCs allow the modeler to link the change in the state of regulators (e.g. pumps and valves) to variations in results elsewhere in the network (e.g. flow and pressure). The user will be able to simulate any Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) in the system using UPCs, including complex mathematical relationships between controllers. UPCs are of particular use to engineers who want to create operational models that are "online" or applied in real time operations using IWLive. UPC scenarios can be created to reproduce the functionality of PLCs and test their applicability to particular situations. Course participants will use UPC to control flows and pressures in a series of example networks.
