Fixed licenses and Floating licenses are the two license types offered by Innovyze to customers. The best type of license depends on the different number of users and the product usage a customer expects to have with the purchased software.
Fixed seat licenses are locked to an individual piece of hardware. If you applied a fixed seat license to a particular computer, it is only worthwhile to install the software on that computer. A fixed seat license may be purchased with multiple seats so that the software may be licensed and installed on as many computers as you have seats for. If you want to move the software from one machine to another, you must deactivate the software on the first machine and reapply it to the new machine (this is covered under InfoCare). Fixed licenses cannot have their software accessed via remote desktop. Fixed licenses are often best for smaller organizations or individual power users of the software application.

Floating seat licenses are shared among users and provide added flexibility compared to fixed seat licenses. With a floating license, the software executable is installed on multiple computers and the license is shared by multiple users. A license server on the organization’s network holds the software license and allows it to be ‘checked out’ by different users. Once a user is done working with a floating license, it is checked back into the license server for other users to check out and use. Like fixed licenses, a single license may have multiple seats so that multiple users may be licensed and use the software at the same time. Floating licenses may also be checked out for up to 14 days so that users can be disconnected from the license server network and still have access to the Innovyze software. Virtual machines, remote desktop access, or other network environments used to access software will require floating licenses. Floating seat licenses are best for larger organizations where multiple users will need access to the software at different points in a project.
