This one-day course is aimed at InfoWorks users who need to identify Transients in their models. The course concentrates on using the InfoWorks TS Pro addition to InfoWorks WS Pro. The theory behind transient analysis is discussed followed by practical examples using the software.
Transient analysis calculates the effects of sudden changes in demand, pump state and valve state changes. Methods of alleviating and controlling transients are available within the software and their affects can be evaluated through simulation.
Transient analysis settings are included in the Control for the network and are set as required on network objects. The simulation type called InfoWorks TS is used via the Schedule Hydraulic Run. Setting Options in the simulation allow the user to determine the starting time of analysis and the length of the transient simulation. The possible effects of Transients on the model can then be analysed with the results.
This is a 1-day hands-on software training course.
Participants are guided through an introduction to the concept of transients in water mains. Examples of the application of the program are demonstrated with the participants running the software and applying controls and testing surge alleviation methods.
Familiarity with InfoWorks WS Pro is assumed and essential. A fundamental understanding of the operation of water distribution systems is required.
Introduction – The theory of transient cause and effect is explained. The process of transient modelling, interpretation of results and choice of transient suppression device is explored.
Practical examples – Cause and effect of transients is explored in a model. Methods of transient control are introduced, and their effects are observed.
